Report on the Reconstruction of Farah Airport – Al-Garrafah Foundation
Project Overview
The Al-Garrafah Foundation, in line with its commitment to reducing air transport challenges in Afghanistan and strengthening civil aviation services, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority. Based on this MoU and the request of the Afghan government, the Foundation undertook the reconstruction and modernization of Farah Airport in accordance with international standards.
Infrastructure Achievements
- Runway (North): Major development of 300 meters in length and 35 meters in width with a turn pad.
- Runway (South): Major development of 500 meters in length and 35 meters in width with shoulders and a turn pad.
- Drainage System: Construction of a 500-meter drainage canal.
- Connecting Roads: Internal paved roads of 530 meters in length (5 meters wide) and an additional 100-meter road (8 meters wide).
- Vehicle Parking: Constructed behind the terminal building.
- Marking: Runway, taxiway, apron, and connecting roads marking covering 10,192 square meters.
- New Terminal Building: One-story structure with domestic and international halls, VIP lounges, arrival halls, passport control hall, and male/female restrooms.
- Control Tower: Four-story building equipped with offices, restrooms, and kitchen facilities.
- Firefighting Facility: One-story standard building with staff accommodation, administrative offices, garage for fire trucks, and repair area.
- Mosque and Ablution Facility: Built for airport staff and passengers.
- Security Facilities: Guard room, security tower, main gate, pedestrian paths, and auxiliary rooms.
- Access Road: 390-meter paved road connecting the terminal to the public highway.
Modern Equipment Delivered
The Foundation procured and delivered advanced European equipment to Farah Airport management, including:
- One fire truck
- One 200 kW generator
- Two tile-cleaning machines
- One baggage conveyor truck
- One passenger boarding stair truck
- One weighing scale and two counters
- Two baggage scanners and two passenger scanners
- One baggage carousel
